About the Author
Charles "Chip" Hauss wears two professional hats. He is the author of books on conflict resolution, comparative politics, and international relations. In 2013, he became editor of a series of books on Peace and Security in the Twenty-First Century and will write its first volume, tentatively entitled Security 2.0. He is also Government Liaison at the Alliance for Peacebuilding. He received his BA from Oberlin College and his MA and PhD from The University of Michigan. Before joining the Alliance, he spent 17 years each teaching at Colby College, Reading University (UK), and George Mason University. Hauss has taught a variety of courses in comparative politics, international relations, and peace studies. As an academic and as an activist, his work has been held together by an interest in and commitment to large scale, nonviolent political and social change. He can be reached at chiphauss@gmail.com.

Received the order in a timely fashion.. loved the book. I have known about Rosa Parks all of my life and recently read 7 Women by Eric Metaxas in which he honors her story. After that book (which was excellent, by the way), I had to read more about Rosa Parks and "Rosa Parks My Story" was recommended. It is not written as a professional artist/author would write but she tells her story infinitely better. The authors are not attempting to persuade the reader merely informing of what happened, from her perspective, in a time of uncertainty and why it happened as it did, again from her perspective.

Well written. Such a poignant story! I appreciated the punctuation in all in the right places throughout. A quick read but the story swims in your head. Excellent.

I read the entire book page by page. It is extremely well written and spells out everything about conducting. "Complete" is pefect for this book. I got put into a conducting position when I went to concert band rehearsal one night and the guy who said he would do it was not feeling comfortable about it (and he teaches jazz trumpet playing and improv in classes around the US!). I said I would do it. Being a flute player makes it tough as I can follow the melodic lines in the score but the other parts are tough. Only half of the music has a full score as some of the music is pretty old and has been passed through many hands over the years, so the music for the first concert of the season (and I had to conduct) was a challenge. I got this book after that concert. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to mark up the scores. But after reading the book I feel more confident about helping out again. Luckily the audience was very receptive (seniors from the senior homes in town). A great learning environment for a newbie conductor!

He takes you through conducting rather quickly and I will say if you NEVER conducted before this can be a good introduction to you and giving you the basic, however it might be a little fast paced. All in all, I really like this book and I picked up a few new things after 11 years of conducting a children's choir.

It was what the title said. Just for idiots pretty much. I learned a little bit, but not nearly what I needed. I'll be searching for a more comprehensive conducting text. But not bad if you are just wanting a little bit of information.

This is a wonderfully concise guide book for the amateur conductor. The book is well organized and the concepts are clearly stated. If you are a struggling amateur conductor of a church choir or community orchestra, this is the book for you.

Good material, but some parts could have been better described, and some parts were like this: "Don't do this and that! But really, it's up to you." Soo, it's kinda confusing really.

Haven't gotten through the whole thing but it is very well organized, very clear and informative. Just what I was looking for.

This truely an Idiot's book. It would be fine for someone without any experience but not educational for someone with some knowledge.
